'Far away from our patriotism'

New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Wednesday warned the U.S. higher education system may be “radicalizing” students.

The mayor's comment came during a reception celebrating Jewish heritage. During an address at the event, Adams reflected on the past academic year, which was full of anti-Israel and anti-American sentiments as students rallied in favor of Palestine.

“We have moved so far away from our patriotism and what really rooted us in the success in the first place,” he lamented. “When you think about the fact that only 18% of young people between the age of 18 and 34 love America, only 18%. That is a question that we're asking, who's coming through the pipeline? Who's going to wear the Navy uniform, the Army uniform? Who's going to be our soldiers, our National Guards? Who's going to say they love America?”

Adams continued, noting college campuses are training students to become radical and full of hatred.

“Right on our college campuses, we're radicalizing our children, not only to hate Jewish people, but to hate the country that they're educated in in the first place,” the mayor said. “Something is wrong with that."

The real tragedy of this is that how many good people are remaining silent because they're afraid of being canceled?" he added. "Well, I say cancel me any day, I'm not going to sit back and allow this to happen to the country that I love.”

Adams has issued similar warnings before. Earlier this month, he noted “there is a movement to radicalize young people” on U.S. campuses.

“I'm not going to wait until it's done and all of a sudden acknowledge the existence of it,” Adams said. “This is a global problem that young people are being influenced by those who are professionals at radicalizing our children, and I'm not going to allow that to happen as the mayor of the City of New York."
