Newly elected Clearfield commissioner charged for stealing campaign sign of fellow candidate prior t

The top vote-getter in Tuesday’s Clearfield County Commissioner race has been charged with stealing a campaign sign the day before the election.

Police say 57-year-old Timothy Winters reportedly stole a “Vote Mary Tatum Commissioner” sign on Monday from outside of the Hyde Volunteer Fire Company.

Police say that Winters was allegedly caught on camera taking a picture of the sign with his cellphone, before taking the sign and throwing it into his pickup truck.

Winters, a Republican, was elected commissioner Tuesday, receiving more than 9,500 votes, according to unofficial election results.

He now faces misdemeanor charges of theft and receiving stolen property.
